Young, James William

Withernsea WW1 Memorial, Queens Street. The memorial was erected in 1923 at a cost of £451, the funds for which were collected through public subscription. A service of dedication was held in 1924. Inscribed in four columns, are the names of sixty-four men killed in World War I.

BORN HULL 1861. SON OF LATE WILLIAM YOUNG & MARY ANN ASHTON. HIS WIFE ZILAH YOUNG LIVED GREYTHORN, WITHERNSEA. HE WAS EDUCATED AT TRINITY HOUSE SCHOOL AND HAD SPENT HIS LIVE AT SEA.

HE WAS PRESUMED DROWNED ON 30/04/1918, AGED 56.

HIS NAME IS REMEMBERED ON TRINITY HOUSE MEMORIAL, HULL.

COMMEMORATED ON THE TOWER HILL NAVAL MEMORIAL, LONDON.

HE IS ALSO  RECORDED ON THE WITHERNSEA WW1 MEMORIAL.
