BORN HULL, 14/03/1894. DRYPOOL. ELDEST SON OF THOMAS AND MINNIE SMITH (1870-1936), OF 26 BLYTH STREET, HULL. SON OF A SHIPYARD WORKER.

HE ENLISTED IN THE 3RD COLDSTREAM GUARDS, IN JULY 1913. WENT TO FRANCE ON THE 12/08/1914. WAS WOUNDED IN MARCH 1915 AND INVALIDED HOME. POSTED TO THE 5TH RESRVE BATTALION, COLDSTREAM GUARDS. DIED IN KING GEORGE HOSPITAL, STAMFORD, OF A PERFORATED GASTRIC ULCER/APPENDICITIS, ON 16/09/1915, AGED 21. HE IS BURIED AT BROMPTON ROAD, CEMETERY, MIDDLESEX, LONDON.

WHEN ASKED WHETHER HE WOULD WISH TO GO THE FRONT AGAIN, HE WROTE, “I AM WILLING IF I AM NEEDED, AS DUTY TO MY KING COMES BEFORE PLEASURE. I AM PROUD I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO A LITTLE.”
HE MARRIED DAISY MARY WHITE, AT ST PETER’S CHURCH DRYPOOL, HULL, IN 1915. SHE LIVED AT 12 LAVINGTON ROAD, WEST EALING, MIDDLESEX. SHE MARRIED A CIVILIAN, ON 05/08/1917 AND BECAME MRS FRAYHORN.
HIS DEATH IS RECORDED IN THE DE RUVIGNY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 1.

HE IS BURIED AT BROMPTON CEMETERY, LONDON.
